Much Wenlock Cricket Club is 138 years old. They still play at their original ground, the Linden Field, which is the site of the rebirth of the modern Olympics.
The Club is currently expanding. It started a second team three years ago who have won promotion from Divisions Seven and Six of the Shropshire League in successive years. The Firsts gained promotion to Division One in 2005 and to the Shropshire Premier League in 2007.
The ground now has new sightscreens and new covers thanks to Wenlock Fencing and Bardons. The new pavilion project should be completed for the 2009 season thanks to the generous support of Bennett Homes Ltd.
Much Wenlock's first season in the Premier League got off to a disappointing start on Saturday at Welshpool. The home side won the toss and put Wenlock in to bat on a soft, green wicket at Maesydre. D
